She Couldn’t Walk Across the Parking Lot. Then She Jumped on a Box.

In 2012, Trina Kennedy was rear-ended on a Denver interstate and sustained a traumatic brain injury — shearing damage to the part of her brain that controls balance, depth perception, and proprioception. Walking across a parking lot required full concentration. Running was out of the question.

Four years later she walked into SSC. Kenny handed her a PVC pipe, took her other hand, and asked her to step up on a 45-pound plate. She thought he was out of his mind.

This conversation covers what it actually looks like to rebuild from nothing, why asking for help is harder than the workout itself, and how the confidence she built in the gym gave her the courage to leave a 20-year nursing career and start over.

If you’ve ever told yourself you can’t — Trina’s story is for you.
