The second Friday in January, is deemed ”National Quitter’s Day”.
It holds that title because the majority of people have already given up on their New Year’s Resolutions by then.
I don’t know how “they” would know this, but I’m certain that Alexa has something to do with it.
That said, I’m not surprised.
By now, reality has set in and the initial adrenaline rush that comes from the start of the race has worn out.
I find that people normally give up for one of six reasons:
1. They went too big and focused on the end instead of the daily habit.
2. They don’t know how or what the next step is.
3. They don’t have anyone holding them accountable.
4. Someone close to them isn’t supporting them.
5. They have a significant identity issue where they think they just “are” a certain way.
6. It’s just not that important to them.
(Bonus reason: They were super drunk on New Years and don’t even remember what they declared).
The good news is that every single one of those issues is solvable. Even the last one.
So here’s what to do if you find yourself in the Quitter’s Day Camp.
Declare today “Perseverance Day” (or something sexier) and ask for help.
All of those things on that list are fixed by looking to someone else and having them help you.
It’s what our gym is built on. Guidance, support and accountability.
In fact, we’ve got a Bring a Friend Day coming up this Friday. You can be my friend and you’re welcome to come see how we can help you make this a year you don’t actually quit.
Send me a message if you want to know how you can take part.
