I don’t wake up motivated to work on my marriage.
I don’t wake up motivated to work on my fitness.
I don’t wake up motivated to be a good dad.
I don’t wake up motivated to work on my business.
I don’t wake up motivated to be a good person.
But I do my best to do all of those things on most days because I am committed to the long view and the outcomes I dream of in the future.
Obviously, all of those things are incredibly important to me. I’d just be lying to you if I said that I hopped out of bed everyday excited to slay dragons.
I know I wrote about this two weeks ago, but I’ve continued to think about it and have continued to have conversations where people will reference their motivation (or lack thereof).
I’m going to continue to beat the horse* and repeat that the vast majority of people are not always motivated.
In fact, I think that most people are not motivated at all.
But their alarm goes off, they put their feet on the floor and they do the things they know they need to do.
There are seasons where it’s easier. There are seasons where it’s harder.
Sometimes you have to get into a slump to be motivated enough to restart your commitment.
Sometimes you feel like you’re doing amazing and can’t imagine that you’d ever be on the opposite side.
But at the end of the day, you’ve just gotta make that decision that this is the person you are going to be, so you get up, you get out of bed and you get to checking boxes, regardless of your level of daily motivation.
*Sorry to any horses out there. It’s just a phrase.
