If not now, when?
I recommend setting goals in terms of the person you want to be in 10-20 years.
It’s very effective to forecast into the future, then back it down into what needs to happen this year, this month, this week and all the way down to days actions in order to set the course for a decade from now.
Conversely, however, it’s also important to think about who you don’t want to be in 10-20 years.
This list includes things you are already doing that you will need to stop doing in order to truly become the hero of your own story.
The question then becomes, “if not now, when?”
In other words, if you know you want to stop a habit you don’t want to have in 10 years, at some point on the timeline, you’ll have to quit.
Are you going to wait until you bottom out and are forced to stop?
Until a family member leaves you?
Until your doctor tells you you’re going to die unless you stop?
What?
Some of the instances on that list are a bit dramatic. Maybe you just don’t want to be the person that hits snooze 3 times in the morning before you actually get out of bed.
But the question remains.
If you’re doing something that the ultimate version of you isn’t doing, when are you going to realign and change your trajectory?
If not now, when?
